What a great introduction to avian sound by our good friend Jenny! Bird vocalizations are fascinating and better understood than most wildlife calls. Why not feature a discussion of beaver vocalizations? (Yes beavers!) They are even even more intriguing and less understood. Beaver kits make a mewing noise very similar to an infant cry, and some tribes reportedly gave a kit to a grieving mother who lost her baby as a comfort.

Beavers spend a great deal of their time underwater. Do they make noises there? NOBODY KNOW. Let’s turn our scientist eye onto this misunderstood species and solve some mysteries in our watershed.
