Big Picture Science – Climate Conversation

Big Picture Science – Climate Conversation

The Paris climate talks are scheduled to go ahead despite the terrorist attacks, and attendees hope to sign an international agreement on climate change. A BBC reporter covering the meetings tells us what we can expect from the conference.

Also, it’s unclear whether Pope Francis himself will travel to the City of Light, but his encyclical may have already influenced the talks there. A historian considers whether the Church’s acceptance of climate change represents a departure from its historical positions on science. Galileo, anyone?

Plus, Hollywood may have stretched the science facts to maximum effect in its cli-sci thriller, The Day After Tomorrow, but find out why the film may not be pure fiction.

And why the developing world may take most of the hit as the planet warms.

Part 2: Virginia Burkett / Climate Victims
Part 3: John Durant / Church Science
Part 4: Matt McGrath / COP21 Paris

“A historian considers whether the Church’s acceptance of climate change represents a departure from its historical positions on science. Galileo, anyone?”
Not at all. This is very much in keeping with the Galileo affair. “Climate Change” aka “Global Warming” is the new acceptable religion subsumed by the Pope, tree huggers, religious fundamentalists of all shades and that eminent scientist, Prince Charles. It fits in well with the narrative of a perfect former garden of Eden, sinful man and the need for atonement. Naturally then climate “scientists” are prepared to lie a little bit for the sake of their science.
Dr John Bates, awarded a special gold medal by President Obama, for his work in setting new, supposedly binding standards ‘to produce and preserve climate data records’, seems to have blown the lid on the lies people tell for the sake of this new religion. Among the things they did:
They tripled the warming trend over the sea during the years 2000 to 2014 from just 0.036C per decade to 0.099C per decade, by taking “good data from buoys …and “corrected” it by using the bad data from ships”.
Then they adjusted the land data by using a flawed program causing the past to appear cooler and the present warmer, thereby increasing the average warming trend.
Then Dr Bates said: ‘I learned that the computer used to process the software had suffered a complete failure.’
The reason for the failure is unknown, but it means the Pausebuster paper can never be replicated or verified by other scientists.
What wonderful science, because of which billions of dollars are spent.
