Big Picture Science – Skeptic Check: New UFO Evidence

Big Picture Science – New UFO Evidence

It was a shocker of a story, splashed across the New York Times front page: The existence of a five-year long, hidden Pentagon investigation of UFOs. With one-third of the American public convinced that aliens are visiting Earth, could this study finally provide the proof?

We consider how this story came to light and what the $22 million program has produced. Does the existence of a secret study mean there’s now decent proof of extraterrestrial craft in our skies? We take a look at the evidence made public so far.

And why, six years after the study ended, are we learning about it now?

Part 2: The Study’s Findings
Part 3: James McGaha / The Video
Part 4: James Oberg / Limits of Perception
Part 5: Investment Opportunity
Part 6: Ben Radford / The Cover Up

Leaving alone that this is very one-sided story (only skeptics were invited) the tone of this episode is unnecessary dismissive of ufologists. They all are dismissed as weird nerds who are being fooled by fake stories and fantasies. And, yeah, they all are crazy conspiracists. Whereas skeptics are all “scientists and researches”. One person in an episode kept laughing and smirking as he talked about UFO stories.
Also, I absolutely loved the line where he talks about DoD closing UFO project as it is “not effective and, you know, simply, ha-ha, doesn’t produce any result, ha-ha”. This would have been a brilliant point, if it wasn’t coming from, you know, SETI, ha-ha.
